Engineering Find di/dt and dr/dt for a DC circuit with indepedent current source
Right! Since the current iL does not change between interval 0- and 0+ the derivative at that point in time is 0! You are right. How about the resistor? Can we proof that current iR is 0 such that there is no potential voltage across the resistor its derivative and no current flows at t=0+...- Xhendos

Engineering Find di/dt and dr/dt for a DC circuit with indepedent current source
Dear PF, I am trying to solve practice problem 8.2. I am stuggling with part B of the question which asks us to find diL(0+)/dt, dvC(0+)/dt and dvR(0+)/dt. My attempt can be seen below. Before t=0 the 4A current source is not present and thus it is an open circuit. A capacitor acts as an open...- Xhendos

Engineering Find di(0+)/dt and dv(0+)/dt of circuit containing resistor, inductor
To be honest, I do not know. Second order circuits will be covered in the next few chapters. Practice problem 8.1 is asked right after Example 8.1, and in Example 8.1 there is also a second-order circuit but the question only asked for the first derivative right after at t=0+. The style of this...- Xhendos

Engineering Find di(0+)/dt and dv(0+)/dt of circuit containing resistor, inductor
Dear PF, I am trying to solve practice problem 8.1 and I am stuck on part b which asks us to find di(0+)/dt and dv(0+)/dt. Down below in the picture is my attempt. Before t=0 it is quite intuitive since the inductor acts as short circuit to steady-state DC and a capacitor acts as open circuit...- Xhendos

Engineering Step response of RC circuit with independent voltage and current sources
This does not make sense to me. The capacitor is charged via an ideal voltage source. It temporarry stores the energy. Why would we threat the 15.171V source as an permanent ideal comoponent since it is not. The stored energy does decay. That is why a final voltage for a large t of -16V does...- Xhendos

Engineering Step response of RC circuit with independent voltage and current sources
In this scenario I would add the two voltage sources to get Vo = 31.171V. Knowing that the 15.171V is stored energy and not an "ideal" voltage source just like the 16V voltage source means that the circuit would eventually decay to 16V over time, thus Vs = 16V This would give V(t) = 31.171 +...- Xhendos

Engineering Step response of RC circuit with independent voltage and current sources
Thanks for your tip. If I convert the circuit using source transformation principle I do get 16V voltage source in series with the 8 ohm resistor. However, according to the answer sheet we have to get Vs = 30V. Where does this delta of 14V from my answer compared to the correct answer sheet come...- Xhendos

Engineering Step response of RC circuit with independent voltage and current sources
Dear PF, In the figure down below is Q7.47 which asks to determine the voltage v(t) across the capacitor for t > 0. Since it is given that V(0) = 0 there are two scenario's which is between time interval 0 < t < 1 and t > 1 according to the independent sources. For the scenario 0 < t < 1 the...- Xhendos
