SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the January 4th, 2010 eclipse, with a participant sharing their photography experience. They utilized a Canon EOS camera with a long lens to capture images of the eclipse, noting that cloud cover aided in the photography process. The participant mentioned that the images were slightly cropped, affecting the apparent angular size of the Sun. Additionally, they observed unexpected dots in one image that were not present in another.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of photography techniques, specifically using a Canon EOS camera.
  • Knowledge of long lens usage for celestial photography.
  • Familiarity with image cropping and its effects on perceived size.
  • Basic awareness of solar eclipses and their visual phenomena.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research advanced techniques for photographing solar eclipses with a Canon EOS camera.
  • Explore the effects of cloud cover on astrophotography.
  • Learn about image editing software to correct cropping issues.
  • Investigate common artifacts in astrophotography and how to mitigate them.

I have already posted the picture in the photography thread, but I will add another here:

It was cloudy (still is, and the eclipse didn't end yet) which helped, as without clouds I doubt I could take the picture. EOS and long lens, pictures are slightly cropped (so the angular size of the Sun is a little bit different).

Dots on the first picture look like a dirt, no idea what they are as they are not visible on the second one.
