Here is a short (10 minute) documentary that was recently made about using zebrafish in biomedical research.
I have spent many years working with many aspects of zebrafish research, so I am kind of biased towards their use.
It is nicely done and discusses some of the advantages of using zebrafish as research organisms.
I have taken several video production classes and am impressed with some of their video and editing techniques (not with all though), plus it has a fun little song at the end.

Hadn't even considered the reproduction rate.
Gives you bigger numbers more easily, so you can better do genetics.
Makes it easier to geneticly map things, recover less common gene combinations, mutagenize and screen for new mutations...

That was interesting. I like to see things outside my general area of knowledge. I'll send it to my son, he's a PharmD and would probably find it interesting (though he doesn't do any lab-style tests, they sometimes do observational studies using data from actual human patients).

Funny thing was, like many people I took a modest stab with an aquarium as a hobby. And I had thought BillTre's avatar looked like a Zebrafish, but figured it might be something much more exotic. Those are tough buggers!
