SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the phenomenon of moonlight illuminating clouds on a dark night. Participants describe observing high clouds obscuring the moon while its light penetrated at an angle, creating a striking visual effect. One user noted that the moon became visible and exceptionally bright after a brief period. The conversation highlights the beauty of this natural occurrence and the intrigue it generates among observers.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic astronomical phenomena
  • Familiarity with cloud types and their effects on light
  • Knowledge of moon phases and visibility
  • Interest in photography techniques for capturing night scenes
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the effects of atmospheric conditions on moon visibility
  • Explore photography techniques for capturing moonlit landscapes
  • Learn about different cloud types and their impact on light diffusion
  • Investigate the science behind lunar phases and their visibility
USEFUL FOR

Astronomy enthusiasts, photographers, and anyone interested in natural phenomena and atmospheric optics will benefit from this discussion.

On a dark night, quite strange to see, high clouds were obviously masking the moon but its light was getting through at an angle to me in such a way as i could not see moon, but its ligh was illuminating the lower clouds just in one part of the sky.
When the moon does poke its head through the clouds it is very bright.

Do you have any pictures? I love phenomena such as this.

Sorry i am at work, i admit i have never seen this before and it took some working out as to how the clouds were so bright, 10 mins later the moon was visible and very bright.

Sounds like a great night for a moon dance.
