Half steps left to right, fourths top to bottom like a guitar is the default but this may be any interval you like, fifths, octaves.... $1700 for a full sized one with a default five octave range. That's as much range as most electric keyboards, since the two extra octaves in a full seven electric usually sound bad anyway.

Here it is playing rock guitar. Much better than a keyboard with a pitch wheel.
