Homework Statement


Suppose we have already known these two theorems:
1.Thomson's theorem: The electrostatic energy of a system consisting of conductors reaches its minimum value relative to all the eletrostatic energy values of different charge distributions in which the total charge on or in each conductor is in variant.
2. A test charge q could not be in stable equilibrium in a eletrostatic field in the vacuum.

The question is to prove that:
A conductor (charged or not) could not be in a stable equilibrium state if there only exist eletrostatic forces.
I found this theorem in Landau's Eletrodynamics of Continuous Media. I have already known the prrof of theorem 1 and 2, but I could not prove this theorem. Landau indicated that this theorem could be demonstrated by the combination of theorem 1 and 2, but how?
I need your help.
