AI Thread Summary
The Alienware Aurora 9700 experienced a graphics card failure after years of use, leading to a replacement that was improperly applied with thermal paste, resulting in damage to the motherboard. After a year of inactivity, the system was examined, and upon powering it on, the power button glowed but did not respond when pressed. This issue could stem from the damaged graphics card or other underlying problems. An attached image shows the screen with a glowing power button, but the significance of an additional blue light is unclear. Further diagnostics are needed to determine the exact cause of the failure.

My father brought an Alienware Aurora 9700 after many years of service it's graphics card gave in. He replaced it with another but he applied to much thermal past which spilt off and fried the board. I don't know all the facts because he gave up on it a year ago. Today I took it out of cupboard and examined it, when I plugged it in, the power button started to glow

but when I pushed it nothing happened, is this because if the damaged graphics card or could something else be wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are we looking at in the attached image? Is this a photo of the screen?

Yes that is a photo of the screen and the red light is the power button glowing, I'm not sure what the glowing blue light is.

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
