SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the spin states of W bosons and their implications for annihilation processes. W bosons exist in three distinct spin states, which allows for the possibility of annihilation despite both being left-handed particles. This contradicts the initial assertion that left-handed W bosons cannot annihilate each other. Understanding these spin states is crucial for comprehending particle interactions in high-energy physics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of particle physics concepts, specifically W bosons
  • Familiarity with quantum mechanics and spin states
  • Knowledge of particle interactions and annihilation processes
  • Graduate-level comprehension of the Standard Model of particle physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties and behaviors of W bosons in the Standard Model
  • Study the implications of spin states on particle annihilation
  • Explore the role of left-handed and right-handed particles in particle physics
  • Investigate experimental evidence supporting the existence of multiple spin states
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for graduate-level physics students, particle physicists, and researchers interested in the dynamics of W bosons and their role in particle interactions.

How can a couple of W bosons annihilate each other, if both are left-handed particles? (there are no right handed Ws)

Your assertion is incorrect. W bosons come in three different spin states.
