  • One participant praises Apostol's books as superb and provides a specific purchasing option for Volume 1 at a relatively low price.
  • Additionally, a participant mentions another calculus text by Courant and John available for purchase at a lower price.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There is no clear consensus on whether Apostol's books are worth the price, as opinions vary on their rigor and difficulty compared to other texts. Multiple competing views remain regarding the best choice for a rigorous calculus book.

Contextual Notes

Participants express varying levels of familiarity with the texts and their intended rigor, which may influence their opinions. The discussion does not resolve the question of value or suitability definitively.

I've read here and on other sites that Apostol's Calculus I-III books are remarkable. Is this the general consensus? I want an extremely rigorous math book. I've been using Larson, Hostetler, and Edwards which is good, but not detailed enough for me. Apostol's books are extremely expensive. Where's the best place to buy books like this?

Thanks for your advice.

Apostol is very difficult. More like an analysis text than you're standard calculus text.
