Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the relationship between height and success, exploring whether people are getting taller or shorter over generations. It includes various perspectives on how height may influence perceptions of success, leadership, and respect, as well as anecdotal observations and historical references.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Exploratory

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that taller people are often perceived as more successful, citing anecdotal evidence and historical figures.
  • Others argue that there is no clear correlation between height and success, referencing personal observations and questioning the validity of studies on the topic.
  • A few participants mention notable short historical figures, like Napoleon and Stalin, and discuss how they may have compensated for their height in other ways.
  • There are claims that societal perceptions favor taller individuals, particularly in leadership roles, and that this may influence electoral outcomes in politics.
  • Some participants express skepticism about the idea that height directly correlates with success, suggesting that other factors may play a more significant role.
  • There are contrasting views on whether shorter individuals exhibit more violent behavior, with some participants sharing personal anecdotes to support their claims.
  • Discussions also touch on psychological aspects, such as preferences in romantic relationships, and how these may relate to perceived status and success.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the relationship between height and success. Multiple competing views remain, with some asserting a connection while others challenge this notion.

Contextual Notes

The discussion includes various assumptions about societal perceptions of height, the influence of cultural factors, and anecdotal evidence that may not be universally applicable. There are also unresolved questions regarding the validity of claims made about height and success.

Short people are smarter because they get more oxygen to their brains than the tall people in their thinning atmosphere.

It is an unreasonable statement to say that tall people are generally smarter. I don't think Alber Einstein was extremely tall?

Converting units...thats about 5'9, 110 lbs? So how big are the idiots? Height isn't correlated to intellgence but personal confidence, force of presence, and ability to influence people often are correlated to height, generally speaking, taller people are more confident, hold people's attention better, and thus are more listened to making them more success, its entirely psyhcological.

The reason why there were so many great short leaders is because short people are so good at manipulating big people.

Tall people feel superior because they can go out and hunt bears or something. But that's fine. You hunt bears and I'll run the country.

Mwa ha ha!

But we all know it's not the politicians who run the country, but the civil service (which is full of short people). Didn't you ever watch 'yes minister'?
