The discussion centers around the preferred way to refer to the year 2010, with participants expressing their opinions on whether to say "two thousand ten" or "twenty ten." Many favor "twenty ten" for its simplicity and brevity, noting that it aligns with how previous decades have been named, such as "nineteen ten." Some participants mention their personal habits, like calling the previous year "oh nine" and the current year "oh ten." There is also playful banter about alternative names, including "2kX" and "Michelson-Morley Experiment" (MMX). The conversation reflects a mix of nostalgia and humor, with some acknowledging that the naming convention may evolve over time, suggesting that in the future, years will be referred to as "twenty" followed by the respective number. Overall, the thread highlights the informal and subjective nature of language and naming conventions in relation to years.
