Businesses are increasingly tightening budgets, as evidenced by a shift from lavish celebrations to minimal events, even after achieving record revenue growth. Employees express frustration over the disparity between their experiences and those of executives, who likely enjoy more extravagant perks. The conversation highlights the emotional toll of impending layoffs, with one employee feeling guilty about surviving while colleagues face job loss. The company has implemented strict performance metrics, threatening termination for not meeting high quotas, adding to workplace stress. Amid these challenges, there's a sense of camaraderie among employees, with discussions about job security and support for one another. The overall sentiment reflects a critical view of corporate practices, where cost-cutting measures often come at the expense of employee morale and job security.

So back in the early-mid-90's there was a man working for my father who while they were running test to determine octane levels (of something I can't remember) decided to break the habit. Prior to his idea, what they had to do was go down to the clerk, hand them the information they had collected, the clerk would type it up and send it to a mainfram in New Jersey (this was from somewhere in Texas). They would then get the results back form the mainframe, etc. But this man had the idea to put software on his computer that when all he had to do after typing in only a few things like moles, temp, etc could find out the octane level far faster. This made everything very effecient, you no longer had to wait on a clerk and a mainframe.

To say the least some 'corporate player' found out that this guy had violated some obscure conduct violation when he placed the software on his labtop. So they reprimanded him, and then they took his idea, used it and saved millions of dollars. "We're going to have to reprimand you m'kay, but oh BTW, we are going to take that same idea you had, apply it and save ourselves millions of dollars." Brilliant guy according to my dad and not happy to lose him at all.
