Calculate Density of Gas Mixture for Oil Burner

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the density of a gas mixture for an oil burner, specifically involving light heating oil (C12H23) with a density of 840 kg/m³ and air with a density of 1.185 kg/m³. The user seeks to determine the total density within the burning device under specific conditions, including a lambda value of 1.2, an oil injection pressure of 12 bar, and a maximum device pressure of 2 bar. The formula used for this calculation is mass = density × volume, leading to the equation den (Total) Vol (Total) = den (oil) V (oil) + den (air) V (air).

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of gas mixture density calculations
  • Familiarity with the ideal gas law
  • Knowledge of lambda values in combustion
  • Basic principles of fluid dynamics in combustion systems
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the ideal gas law and its application in density calculations
  • Learn about the significance of lambda values in combustion efficiency
  • Explore fluid dynamics principles relevant to oil burner design
  • Investigate methods for measuring density in gas mixtures
USEFUL FOR

Engineers, combustion specialists, and anyone involved in the design and optimization of oil burners and combustion systems.

Anybody knows how can i calculate the density of:

Light heating oil (C12H23): 840 kg/m3 and air: 1.185 kg/m3

The system is: oil burner in a small burning device and i want to calculate what density is in the inside the burning device.

I want to know the density for LAMBDA: 1.2

Operating conditions:
Pressure of oil injection is: 12 bar
Max. pressure of burning device is: 2 bar

Consider as total mass:

mass = density X volume = den X V

den (Total) Vol (Total) = den (oil) V (oil) + den (air) V (air)

and solve for den (Total)
