Homework Statement



A 1.89 kg mass is suspended from a string which is pulled upward. The mass accelerates upwards with an acceleration of 3.30 m/s2. What is the tension in the string?

Ok I tried 6.237=Fnet
18.53-6.237 =
12.293+6.237=
18.53N But that's whrong
 
From Newton's Law

F=ma

where

F is the force (N)

m is the mass (kg)

a is the acceleration due to gravity. On Earth it is 9.81 N/s^2

Set up a free body diagram and sum for forces in the y direction.
