CAM Design with Non-Linear Force Profile

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on designing a CAM composite with a spring for an exoskeleton aimed at enhancing mobility for the elderly. The primary challenge is the existing linear force profile of the CAM, which applies force proportionally to the leg's extension. The user seeks solutions to modify the CAM design to delay the force application until a specific extension point is reached, thereby improving functionality and user experience.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of CAM mechanisms and their applications in robotics
  • Knowledge of spring dynamics and force profiles
  • Familiarity with exoskeleton design principles
  • Basic skills in CAD software for designing mechanical components
NEXT STEPS
  • Research non-linear spring designs to achieve desired force profiles
  • Explore CAD software options for prototyping CAM designs
  • Investigate control systems for timing the force application in exoskeletons
  • Study existing exoskeleton projects that utilize delayed force mechanisms
USEFUL FOR

Mechanical engineers, robotics designers, and developers working on assistive technologies for mobility enhancement.

I need to design a CAM composite with a spring for an exoskeleton to aid elderly mobility. However, the problem I face right now is that the CAM I designed provides a linear force profile, i.e., the force varies proportionally with the extension of the leg. How can I delay this force applied so that the force generated acts only after a certain point. Thanks in advance :)
