Can I replace 2.5A plug with 5A plug?

I have a serial light whose plug is not working. Its output is 2.5A 250v. I have spare plugs of 5A 250v. Is it safe to replace the former with the latter? If not, can you give any other suggestions?

Not sure what you mean by serial light, but you can replace a 2.5A 250V supply with a 5A 250V supply no problem.

Are you talking about a fuse in the plug?

If the question is "Is it safe to use a 5A fuse for a device that is designed to work with a 2.5A fuse?" then the answer is no.

In my country it is possible to replace the fuse in a plug, so if you put a 3A fuse in a 5A plug, it effectively becomes a 3A plug.

However, it may be that you mean something different than a plug-with-a-5A-fuse.

I have now googled for "serial light" (I've never heard that term before.) It appears to be a string of lights such as you would use for a Christmas tree. In which case I would agree that post #2 would be correct.

Does it make any difference if i connect the previously positive wires with negative and vice versa?(these lights are LEDs)

I find it unlikely that, that plug would be the source of the problem, unless your dog ate it? But if you are sure, then yes will still work, and while best practice would dictate that you keep your +'s and -'s the same, no it doesn't matter which way the wires are for that kind of plug.

Yes. You can replace that type of 3A plug with a 5A plug. Are you sure the fault is with the plug? They are usually quite reliable.

Well that might still happen if there is a fault with the LED string and it's not in the plug.

Perhaps find an extension lead that and fit a 3A fuse in that, then plug the lights in via the extension lead.

as an aside ... Ohhh believe me, faulty plugs exist, I have been bitten by 240VAC mains
when the plug was moulded during manufacture, there was once fine stray wire of the multi strand hot conductor that came out through the plastic moulding
This was unknown till I went to pull the plug out of the wall socket and got belted
