AI Thread Summary
A recent graduate with a Master's in Condensed Matter Physics (CMP) is seeking job opportunities in research and development or test and evaluation, particularly in companies or national labs that value expertise in magnetic measurements and nanocomposites. While open to roles outside of CMP, the preference is to stay within the scientific community and primarily within the U.S. Suggestions include exploring the semiconductor industry and hard drive manufacturers, which may have a keen interest in magnetic nanoparticles. The graduate has faced challenges finding positions at major semiconductor companies and is looking for smaller firms that may offer better opportunities for applied physics experience with less competition.

Hello,

I recently graduated with an MS in CMP, and my research was in the production of and magnetic measurements of MgB2 and iron nanocomposites. I have been trying to find companies that would be interested in hiring a CMP masters graduate. Does anyone know any companies or national labs that are hiring in R&D or test and evaluation areas?

I have a broad range of interests and I am not excluding positions outside of CMP, but I would like to remain within the scientific community. I am free to move anywhere within the US or internationally, however I would prefer to remain stateside.

Any help that anyone can offer is very much appreciated.

Thank you all so much!

I assume by CMP you mean condensed matter physics. Have a look at companies in the semiconductor industry. If you've studied magnetic nanoparticles there are probably hard drive manufacturers which would be very interested in your experience.

Thank you for your response daveyrocket. Sorry, yes I meant condensed matter physics. I have been searching many of the major semiconductor companies job sites, but haven't had any luck with them to date.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any smaller companies looking for CMP expertise where there won't be as many applicants and a better chance of getting some more "real-world" experience with applied physics.

For some background, I'm currently a 3rd year physics major with an astro specialization studying in Canada, and as undergraduates are want to do I'm regularly evaluating my career prospects down the road. I also plan on pursuing grad school when I've completed my degree. It might just be my anxiety acting up a little, but with a lot of the government funding drying up for public science research broadly in the US, the 'industry' everyone keeps talking about when questions like this are...
Hello Physics Forums Community, I'm hoping to draw upon the community's collective wisdom regarding a procedural challenge that I believe many independent researchers face. I'm working on a self-contained theoretical framework from a foundational starting point. The work touches upon concepts from general relativity, quantum foundations, and cosmology, attempting to connect them based on a single relational principle. It has now reached a point, where some parameter free values seemingly...
