CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) Software Inquiry

AI Thread Summary
Several users recommend popular CFD software packages such as Comsol, Ansys, and Autodesk Simulation CFD for applications involving fluid flow and heat transfer in building facades. The software should be compatible with Catia, AutoCAD, and support DXF import for effective use. While some users express a preference for specific programs, others mention that even Matlab could handle simpler geometries. Autodesk Simulation CFD is highlighted for its flexibility and comprehensive features. Overall, the discussion emphasizes the importance of selecting software that meets specific project requirements.

Hey All!

Happy Monday (No one likes hearing that)

I've been recently looking into the different CFD programs available, and have become somewhat overwhelmed. My purpose today is to get some opinions, reviews, or experienced guidance on which programs would be useful to look into further.

To give you a little bit more of an idea of what the program will be used for, here is a little background information:

needs to be compatible with Catia, AutoCAD, DXF Import

will be used to calculate fluid flow, heat flow, and condensation inside, and outside of a dual skin facade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-skin_facade)

will also be used to calculate fluid flow, heat flow, and condensation inside and outside of a typical curtain wall frame (Aluminum framing enclosing a piece of glass)

Any input of information will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Any of the big named CFD software packages should be able to do what you desire. You could probably do this in Matlab even if your geometries aren't that complicated. I personally like Comsol and Ansys. Was never a big fan of other packages like Star CCM although some people love it.

I've been really looking into AutoDesk Simulation CFD. Seems to be flexible and full featured. Any experience or thoughts on this package?

Thread 'I need a concave mirror with a focal length length of 150 feet'
I need to cut down a 3 year old dead tree from top down so tree causes no damage with small pieces falling. I need a mirror with a focal length of 150 ft. 12" diameter to 36" diameter will work good but I can't think of any easy way to build it. Nothing like this for sale on Ebay. I have a 30" Fresnel lens that I use to burn stumps it works great. Tree service wants $2000.
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
