Changing Skype password directs me to Microsoft: confusion

When attempting to change a Skype password, users may encounter confusion regarding whether they are resetting their Microsoft account password or their Skype password. It's clarified that changing the password through Skype's settings actually modifies the Microsoft account password, as Skype is integrated with Microsoft services. Users can have separate Microsoft accounts with different passwords, which can lead to misunderstandings. A recent source indicates that Microsoft and Skype passwords are not the same, but this information may be outdated. The discussion emphasizes the importance of understanding the relationship between Microsoft accounts and Skype when managing passwords.

Wishing to change my Skype password (because I forgot to record or save it and hence forgot it and can't retrieve it, as the password is not visible anywhere), I let my computer sign in to Skype automatically, then
>Settings>Profile>Change Password
Whereupon I get a screen that looks like this
skype microsoft.png

This is confusing: am I re-setting my Microsoft password, or my Skype password, by filling in this page?
Thanks for the help.

Microsoft owns Skype. Skype is part of Microsoft services. I don't know if the passwords are related or identical. I don't use Skype, but this sounds similar to the way Google owns Youtube and they have the same password. So changing one also changes the other.

Thanks, FactChecker. But I do know that the passwords for Skype and for Microsoft are different passwords. (I have a second Skype account, with a different password to my Microsoft account.) So, it is still not clear to me: when I fill in the above, what password am I changing?

That is not accurate. You have a a second Microsoft account, with a different identity (probably a different email address), on which Skype is also enabled.

You would be changing the password to your Microsoft account.

Super, bpuk. "You would be changing the password to your Microsoft account." Direct, clear answer.

"You have a second Microsoft account, with a different identity (probably a different email address), on which Skype is also enabled." Thank you for that correction. You are correct, it is a different email address.

Thanks also for the link. I see that the link is from this year (the exact date does not seem to be noted), so I presume that the 23 Nov 2023 answer from this source
https://www.easeus.com/key-finder/find-skype-password.html
which states
"the Microsoft and Skype passwords are not the same".
is either outdated or simply wrong.

So, thanks again to both you, pbuk, and FactChecker. Case closed.

LLMs and AIs have a bad reputation at PF, and I share this opinion. I have seen too much nonsense they produced, and too many "independent researchers" who weren't so independent after all, since they used them. And then there is a simple question: If we had to check their results anyway, why would we use them in the first place? In fact, their use is forbidden by the rules. I tend to interpret the reason for this rule because nobody wants to talk to a machine via PF. Those who want to can...
