SUMMARY

Cold fusion, now termed Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENR), does not produce significant energy and is not a viable power source. While transmutations of element nuclei occur during LENR experiments, the energy output is negligible and insufficient for practical applications. Current research explores alternative nuclear structure theories, but no breakthrough in energy generation has been achieved. The discussion references "The Nature of the Atom - An Introduction to the Structured Atom Model" (Curtis Press, 2021) as a resource for understanding these alternative theories. The forum enforces a ban on cold fusion and LENR topics due to their lack of scientific progress and practical relevance.

PREREQUISITES

  • Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENR) theory
  • Nuclear transmutation processes
  • Atomic nucleus structure models
  • Scientific research methodology in nuclear physics

NEXT STEPS

  • Study alternative nuclear structure theories as outlined in "The Nature of the Atom - An Introduction to the Structured Atom Model"
  • Review experimental data on nuclear transmutations in LENR
  • Investigate mainstream nuclear fusion technologies for practical energy generation
  • Understand scientific consensus and peer-reviewed research standards in nuclear physics

USEFUL FOR

Researchers in nuclear physics, students studying atomic models, and science communicators interested in the status and scientific evaluation of cold fusion and LENR technologies.

TL;DR
Does it work?
Hi
I was just wondering if cold fusion works? If it doesn't why?

Does it produce much power?

Nope.

The field is now called "Low Energy Nuclear Reactions", LENR.

Transmutations of element nuclei do occur during the process, but there is no significant energy generated. It will not break the economy, but it will reveal useful science in time.

It is difficult to tell what is happening with that line of research at the moment. Alternative theories of the structure of an element's nucleus are being investigated.

It does not work, modulo the useful info from @Baluncore above. Cold Fusion and LENR are on the Forbidden Topics list in the PF Rules, because discussions about the topic are basically a waste of time and electrons:
