Concrete Columns: Building a 3-Floor House

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the construction methodology for building a three-floor house, specifically comparing two approaches: constructing the concrete structure first versus building the brick structure first with spaces for columns. It is established that both methods have their merits, and the choice depends on local building codes and the specific evaluation by the construction team. The role of bricks as a non-load-bearing façade is also highlighted, emphasizing the importance of understanding structural integrity in design.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of concrete construction techniques
  • Knowledge of masonry and brickwork
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations
  • Basic principles of structural engineering
NEXT STEPS
  • Research local building codes regarding concrete and masonry construction
  • Explore best practices for integrating concrete columns in brick structures
  • Learn about load-bearing versus non-load-bearing wall construction
  • Investigate the advantages of different construction methodologies for multi-story buildings
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for architects, civil engineers, construction managers, and anyone involved in residential building design and construction, particularly those focused on multi-story structures.

This is regarding a building a house with 3 floors. I have seen some masons are first do the concrete structure and then they do the brick structure.
But I have seen some do the basement first and do the bricks first and in between they keep a space for columns and they pour concrete mixture in between the walls to do the columns.

Which one is good? and why?

Welcome to the PF.

What country are you in? What do your local building codes say about this type of construction?

Each has it's place. Your construction team must evaluate which process would be best for you.

In which case, are you referring to the bricks that are used as a façade for the building exterior and have no load bearing capacity.
