To convert 24 minutes to hours, the correct calculation is 24 minutes multiplied by 1/60 hours per minute, resulting in 0.4 hours. The confusion arose from miscalculating the value of 1/60, which is approximately 0.01667, rather than rounding it to 0.02. Rounding intermediate results can lead to significant errors in calculations. The discussion highlights the importance of precision in mathematical conversions. Understanding these nuances helps clarify the conversion process.

well i was wondering which of these are true and why so please help me out
24min=?h
1 min= 1/60h
.'. 24 * 1/60 =24/60 =0.4

or

1 min=1/60h
1/60=0.016161616
~0.02 (i took what is close to it)
24 * 0.02=0.48

i myself think that the second one is false but y does the number change so much??where did i go wrong?

You seem to have miscalculated the value for \frac{1}{60}.

\frac{1}{60} = 0.01666 ...

Still, it's fairly obvious where the 'error' is coming from. You've rounded the number you are multiplying by. Also as fedaykin said, you got the value for 1/60 wrong.

I suspect that it's just the 'D'OH!' moment, I have them all the time.

Never ever round down intermediate results.

Now you even know why.

It's amazing that someone with green hair can be so wise!:cool:

thanx everyone thank u soo much
