SUMMARY

The maximum wavelength of M101 visible to the naked eye is approximately 700 nm, which corresponds to the red part of the spectrum. The H-alpha emission line, a specific wavelength of light emitted by hydrogen, is noted as the most intense emission line associated with M101. This discussion clarifies that the longest wavelength perceived is indeed red, while the brightest wavelength remains unspecified.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic spectrum and wavelengths
  • Knowledge of astronomical emission lines, particularly H-alpha
  • Familiarity with basic observational astronomy concepts
  • Ability to interpret scientific articles and data
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties of H-alpha emission lines in various astronomical objects
  • Explore the electromagnetic spectrum and its relevance in astronomy
  • Study the observational techniques used in amateur astronomy
  • Investigate the characteristics of M101 and its significance in the night sky
USEFUL FOR

Astronomy enthusiasts, amateur astronomers, and students studying astrophysics who seek to understand the visibility of celestial objects and their emission characteristics.

What is the maximum wavelength of m101 seen from the Earth by eye?

Do you mean longest wavelength? If so, that would be red (~700 nm). The H-alpha is the most intense emission line.

If you mean brightest wavelength, I haven't a clue.
