Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the perception of colors in a colorblindness test, with participants sharing their experiences and observations regarding the colors displayed. The scope includes personal experiences with color perception, potential technical issues affecting color display, and the influence of different viewing conditions.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions their color perception and asks others if they see a difference in the last six colors of a provided colorblindness test.
  • Another participant suggests that the differences in color perception may be due to the browser or computer screen, noting that the hues are subtle.
  • Some participants assert that the descriptions of the colors on the test are incorrect based on their own observations.
  • One participant lists the colors they see in the order described by the test and inquires about the lighting conditions under which others are viewing the screen.
  • Technical advice is given regarding checking the color depth settings on computer displays, with one participant noting a change from 16 bit to 32 bit without a difference in perception.
  • Several participants mention that tilting their screens alters their perception of the colors, with one noting that colors appear stronger when viewed at an angle.
  • One participant claims to have passed colorblindness tests and confirms their color perception with family members, while also discussing the impact of display types on color sensitivity.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on color perception and the accuracy of the test's color descriptions. There is no consensus on the reasons for the differences in color perception, as some attribute it to technical factors while others focus on personal experiences.

Contextual Notes

Participants mention various factors that may influence color perception, including ambient lighting, screen type (laptop vs. CRT), and color depth settings. These factors remain unresolved in the discussion.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in color perception, colorblindness testing, or those experiencing discrepancies in color display on digital devices may find this discussion relevant.

is there something wrong with my eyes?

Can anyone else see a difference in the last 6 'colours' in this set:

Biology news on Phys.org
turquoise, green, blue, yellow, pink, beige

Maybe it's your browser or your computerscreen, the hues are REALLY subtle

OH wait! The colors are noted next to it :-p didn't see that, well, it seems they've got their blue en green mixed around.. seashell and icy pink are mixed around too.. tsk tsk..

I can see different colors, but their descriptions of the colors are wrong.

Odd, because I see, in order:

Lavender
blue
green
yellow
light beige
pink

exactly how described by the page.

Under what lighting conditions are you guys viewing your screen?
Right now for me it's incandescent lights. Or it could be the gamma setting for on your video.

Just in case, right click on your desktop background, click "properties," click the "settings" tab, and make sure your color depth is "32 bit."

Weird, the first and the last are indifferent

hm, it was set to 16 bit, but it's still the same with the 32 bit..

I couldn't see the last 6 colours at first glance either. But just a slight tilt of my laptop screen away from me and the 6 colours were reavealed!

That's funny, when I tilt my screen the green becomes blue and all the colors become really strong :O (colors are still mixed around though)

 really? Do you have color blindness by any chance? http://www.toledo-bend.com/colorblind/Ishihara.html
Not in the least. I've always past every such tests with flying colors
Besides, just to be safe, I asked both my wife and daughter to double check me, and they both agreed that with the same colors I saw.

How many of you that see the colors differently are using laptops or flat panel displays? Their displays are sensitive to ambient light conditions which CRT monitors aren't.

The other colors are really off too, from the top it is:
navy green
light navy green
lilac
blue
grey
purple
grey navy green
tan
