Homework Statement

Does flowing water absorb and release air?

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

Physics news on Phys.org
if some subtance A absorbs another substance B, what would happen to the volume of substance A.

take a glass of water and stir it. WHat happens to the volume of water in the glass?

(Assuming you didnt spill any water out of the glass:-p )

Yes it does, and the more vigorous the flow, the higher the dissolved oxygen content, generally.

so basically if you splash water or something like that the water can release some of its oxygen content into the air.

Usually its more the other direction, oxygen gets entrapped--look at the gradients to understand why, while H2S and some other undesireable gasses are released.
