SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the hypothetical scenario of teleporting from Earth to a planet in the Andromeda galaxy and whether this would equate to time travel. Participants assert that teleportation is currently impossible, rendering the question moot. Additionally, the ambiguity surrounding the term "instantaneous" complicates the discussion, as it lacks a clear definition. Ultimately, the consensus is that without the ability to teleport, the question remains theoretical and unresolved.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of theoretical physics concepts, particularly regarding space-time.
  • Familiarity with the concept of teleportation in science fiction.
  • Knowledge of the Andromeda galaxy's distance from Earth.
  • Basic grasp of time dilation and its implications in relativity.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of quantum teleportation and its current scientific status.
  • Explore the implications of Einstein's theory of relativity on time travel.
  • Investigate the distances involved in intergalactic travel, focusing on Andromeda.
  • Examine the philosophical implications of time travel in theoretical discussions.
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, science fiction writers, and anyone interested in the theoretical implications of teleportation and time travel.

TL;DR
time and distance
If you could instantaneously teleport from Earth to a planet in the Andromeda galaxy; when you arrive, would you be in what to Earth would be the distant past? Meaning that when you looked at Earth, you would be seeing what it looked like millions of years ago?

You cannot, so the question is moot.

Even if we accept the premise the question is ill defined in that you have not specified what ”instantaneous” means.
