The discussion centers around whether "Twilight" depicts statutory rape, focusing on the relationship between the 108-year-old vampire Edward and the teenage Bella, who is 15 or 16. Participants express concern about the normalization of relationships between significantly older characters and minors in media, particularly in genres aimed at younger audiences. Some argue that while the vampire premise is fictional, it raises ethical questions about portraying such relationships without critique. Others counter that the characters' ages are often misrepresented, as Bella becomes an adult by the series' end, and that the story's context should be considered. The conversation also touches on broader societal issues regarding the portrayal of sexuality in media and the potential impact on impressionable audiences. Ultimately, the thread reveals a tension between artistic expression in fantasy and the moral implications of depicting age-disparate relationships.

I'm really not sure what's going on in this thread, and I'll admit I'm a bit tired at the moment, so I may be misreading, but it seems to be heading all over the place and turning into a bunch of bickering. So, I'm going to lock it for now. When I'm a bit more rested, I'll re-read and decide if I should re-open it (or perhaps Evo will arrive before then and make a final decision on the fate of the thread).
