Does U of T Engineering Science Consider School Difficulty in Admissions?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on concerns about gaining admission to the Engineering Science program at the University of Toronto (U of T) while facing academic challenges due to attending a rigorous school. The individual has achieved a strong 93% in grade 12 advanced functions but has lower marks in grade 11 subjects, including biology, chemistry, and physics. They plan to take AP Physics and AP Calculus in the upcoming year and are curious if U of T will consider the difficulty of their school and the rigor of their courses in the admissions process. The conversation highlights the frustration of comparing grades with peers from less challenging academic environments, emphasizing the importance of AP courses on the transcript as a positive factor for admissions. The individual seeks advice and reassurance regarding their situation and prospects for acceptance into the program.

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if I could get into engsci at U of T. I'm currently going into grade 12 and I feel as if I'm at a disadvantage. My school is extra hard which makes my marks lower than the average student at a regular school.

I've already taken grade 12 advanced functions and got a 93% in it but my grade 11 marks are less than exceptional. Bio low 70's, Chem low/mid 80's, physics mid 80's.

Next year I'm taking AP physics and AP Calc next year. Will U of T see that? and my school has a reputation of being hard. will they take that into account or not? next year my hard courses are physics calc and chem.

has anyone been in the same boat? I get so angry when kids tell be they have a 95% in physics when they're learning incredibly basic physics throughout the year while I'm struggling with university physics that isn't even in the curriculum. I'm confident that I would have those marks if I were taking their course

help

I also live just an hour's drive outside of toronto

any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

Taking AP classes will show on your transcript, and would look good.

TL;DR Summary: What topics to cover to safely say I know arithmetic ? I am learning arithmetic from Indian NCERT textbook. Currently I have finished addition ,substraction of 2 digit numbers and divisions, multiplication of 1 digit numbers. I am moving pretty slowly. Can someone tell me what topics to cover first to build a framework and then go on in detail. I want to learn fast. It has taken me a year now learning arithmetic. I want to speed up. Thanks for the help in advance. (I also...
Hi community My aim is to get into research about atoms, specifically, I want to do experimental research that explores questions like: 1. Why do Gallium/Mercury have low melting points 2. Why are there so many exceptions and inconsistencies when it comes to explaining molecular structures / reaction mechanisms in inorganic and organic chemistry 3. Experimental research about fundamental Quantum Mechanics, such as the one being followed by Hiroshima university that proved that observing...
guys i am currently studying in computer science engineering [1st yr]. i was intrested in physics when i was in high school. due to some circumstances i chose computer science engineering degree. so i want to incoporate computer science engineering with physics and i came across computational physics. i am intrested studying it but i dont know where to start. can you guys reccomend me some yt channels or some free courses or some other way to learn the computational physics.
