Durham or Lancaster for physics degree?

Durham is better. Its Particle Physics group is one of the best in the UK.

it's got a good particle group. I only live about 25-30 mins north of it so I can tell you it's a really nice city too.
 
Durham is certainly one of the top locations for particle physics in the UK. But binbagsss didn't talk about particle physics in particular so your definite advices are perhaps a bit premature, considering the fact that you know nothing about binbagsss's criteria.
