Electric mining truck creates electric power

AI Thread Summary
A fully electric mining truck has been developed with a 600 kilowatt-hour battery pack that discharges 200 kWh nightly to prevent overcharging. It operates by being loaded at the top of a hill and unloading at the bottom, utilizing regenerative braking to generate more power than needed for the return trip. While this technology significantly reduces fuel consumption, its application is very limited and may not be economically viable, as it reportedly earns less than $50 from excess energy sold. The truck's large battery, weighing 4.4 tons, showcases advancements in electric vehicle technology. Overall, while innovative, the practicality of this electric mining truck remains questionable.

TL;DR Summary
It partially discharges its battery to the grid every night.
A fully electric mining truck has been built that does not burn fuel. It has a 600 kilowatt-hour battery pack, and they need to discharge about 200 KwH of that every night to keep from overcharging it. The secret: It's loaded at the top of the hill, and unloaded at the bottom. The regenerated power is greater than the power needed to drive the unloaded truck back up the hill. A very limited application, but it saves a lot of fuel. Link: https://techxplore.com/news/2019-08-jumbo-electric-vehicle-energy-bragging.html

It must be expensive running equipment like that for less than 24 hours per day, to earn less than $50 selling the excess regenerated energy.

Lol. . . I would think so. . 😜

Some of the hype-type journalism wasn't to bad though. . . .:DD

I can only relate to "Jumbo Jets" or "Olympic-Size Swimming Pools". . . . 🙄This is really interesting. . . definitely pushing technology !

WOW !

Through a process called regenerative braking, the eDumper's electric motor goes into reverse when the driver hits the brake pads, releasing electricity that can be stored and returned to the battery.
Amazing stuff. . .! . 😒They didn't hype this though. . . lol

Not a problem, just add 45 of these SuperBrightLeds light bars and you are good to go.

The ultimate macho manly truck light bar setup. Ten kilowatts and 1,000,000 lumens should be enough for anybody.

Posted June 2024 - 15 years after starting this class. I have learned a whole lot. To get to the short course on making your stock car, late model, hobby stock E-mod handle, look at the index below. Read all posts on Roll Center, Jacking effect and Why does car drive straight to the wall when I gas it? Also read You really have two race cars. This will cover 90% of problems you have. I'm trying to decide what size and type of galvanized steel I need for 2 cantilever extensions. The cantilever is 5 ft. The space between the two cantilever arms is a 17 ft Gap the center 7 ft of the 17 ft Gap we'll need to Bear approximately 17,000 lb spread evenly from the front of the cantilever to the back of the cantilever over 5 ft. I will put support beams across these cantilever arms to support the load evenly
Thread 'Physics of Stretch: What pressure does a band apply on a cylinder?'
Scenario 1 (figure 1) A continuous loop of elastic material is stretched around two metal bars. The top bar is attached to a load cell that reads force. The lower bar can be moved downwards to stretch the elastic material. The lower bar is moved downwards until the two bars are 1190mm apart, stretching the elastic material. The bars are 5mm thick, so the total internal loop length is 1200mm (1190mm + 5mm + 5mm). At this level of stretch, the load cell reads 45N tensile force. Key numbers...
