Electrostatic charges on a cotton yarn

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on generating electrostatic charges on cotton yarn to adhere it to specific surfaces, contrary to the common practice of discharging static electricity in textiles. The user seeks methods to achieve this effect, emphasizing the need for strong electrostatic charges. A suggested starting point for research is the Wikipedia article on electrostatic generators, which provides foundational knowledge on generating static electricity.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electrostatic principles
  • Familiarity with textile properties, specifically cotton yarn
  • Knowledge of electrostatic generators and their operation
  • Basic concepts of friction and charge transfer
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the design and functionality of electrostatic generators
  • Explore methods for enhancing electrostatic charge retention on textiles
  • Investigate the effects of different surface treatments on cotton yarn
  • Study the principles of triboelectric charging in textiles
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for textile engineers, researchers in electrostatics, and professionals in the textile industry looking to innovate in yarn adhesion techniques.

Usually, in textile industry, the important issue is to discharge the yarns from any electrostatic charges that might be stuck on it due to friction or other factors. What I need is completely the opposite; I want to put, on a yarn, electrostatic charges strong enough to make the yarn stuck on a specific surface.
Any ideas about where or how I can start my research?
