Google Sheets can now be embedded into PF through a simple three-step process: share the document, get the shareable link, and paste it into the PF post editor. This feature is seen as a significant improvement for users. However, there are concerns about long-term dependency on Google’s platform, with a desire for broader compatibility across different websites. The discussion emphasizes the importance of maintaining flexibility and avoiding reliance on a single provider's standards. Overall, the embedding feature is welcomed, but caution is advised regarding platform dominance.

You can now embed your Google Sheets (Excel) into PF (working on docs and slides). 3 Easy Steps!

Step 1: Click the green share button at the top right of the document interface

Step 3: Copy the resulting link (automatically copied to clipboard) and paste directly into PF post editor. PF will transform the link.

This is a great improvement but I would like to, in the long term, make sure this is provide independent... i.e. documents on any website can be similarly embedded provided it adheres to some freely licensed standard. Google has learned from Microsoft some of the dirty tricks one may use to dominate other peoples' standards. We shouldn't freak out about it but should always have a mild resistance to "too many eggs in one (other person's) basket.

Just a not-so-humble-opinion of mine.

Hello everyone, I recently revisited Physics Forums after a long hiatus (about 4-5 years) and started catching up on the recent discussions. What immediately struck me—and what inspired this thread—is seeing so many of the exact same user names in the "Latest Posts" section who were just as active when I was last here! To the dedicated, long-term, and continuously active members of this community: What keeps you coming back and contributing regularly after all this time? Is it the joy...
