SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the existence of space at the Planck level, where both time and distance appear to vanish from mathematical equations. Participants highlight that current research suggests space and time are interdependent, forming a unified concept known as space-time. The notion that time may be emergent implies that space could also be emergent, reinforcing the speculative nature of these theories. Bill emphasizes that while these ideas are intriguing, they remain highly speculative and require further exploration.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Planck scale physics
  • Familiarity with the concept of space-time
  • Basic knowledge of theoretical physics
  • Awareness of emergent phenomena in physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the implications of Planck scale physics on our understanding of reality
  • Explore the concept of emergent time in theoretical frameworks
  • Study the relationship between space and time in general relativity
  • Investigate current theories in quantum gravity
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for physicists, cosmologists, and anyone interested in the fundamental nature of reality and the interplay between space and time at the quantum level.

Hi. I think there has been research about the idea that time may not exist on the very fundamental level of reality. Does anyone know if space exists at that same level? I have read somewhere that at the Planck level, which is the smallest level physicists have gone to, time and distance drop out of the mathematical equations.

Read where? We can't explain what you've read if we don't know what it is.

Its possible - but its highly speculative.

Since we know space and time don't exist independently and we really have space-time if time is emergent its a pretty safe bet space is as well.

Thanks
Bill
