Forced cooling method of transformer

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the control systems used for forced cooling in transformers, focusing on the mechanisms for managing coolant flow in response to temperature changes due to varying load conditions. Participants explore the types of sensors and control methods that might be employed in these systems.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the control system for forced cooling and whether an increase in transformer load necessitates an increase in coolant mass flow rate.
  • Another participant suggests the use of thermally operated flow control valves and thermostats to sense temperature changes, along with a transducer that generates thermo-emf to operate the flow control valve.
  • A different viewpoint proposes that the pump may operate at a constant speed while the fan speed is controlled by a speed controller.
  • Further clarification is provided that the fan could also be managed by activating additional fans as needed.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present multiple competing views on the mechanisms and control strategies for forced cooling in transformers, indicating that the discussion remains unresolved.

Contextual Notes

There are assumptions regarding the operation of pumps and fans that are not fully detailed, and the discussion does not clarify the cost implications of the proposed sensors or control systems.

What is exactly the control system employed for forced cooling of transformer?
'If the load on transformer increases, then temperature rises & the mass flow rate of coolant has to be increased' is it true?
So is there any sensor/transducer for sensing (taking the feedback) of flow rate of coolant?
If yes is it expensive?

I guess, we can have a thermally operated flow control valves. i.e, thermostats to sense the temperature change and a transducer generating thermo-emf which could operate the flow control valve.

My guess is the pump runs at constant speed, but the fan is controlled by a speed controller.

Or by turning on more fans.
