SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the need for a plugin for MSN Messenger that facilitates easy math typesetting using LaTeX codes. Users express frustration with the current limitations of math representation in Messenger, particularly due to the interference of smileys. While a drawing feature exists, it is not considered user-friendly. A similar plugin is available for the Linux client GAIM, but it has not been adapted for the Windows version of MSN Messenger.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of LaTeX for mathematical typesetting
  • Familiarity with MSN Messenger and its functionalities
  • Knowledge of plugin development for messaging applications
  • Basic awareness of cross-platform software compatibility
NEXT STEPS
  • Research existing LaTeX plugins for messaging applications

Does someone know of a good plugin to Messenger allowing for easy math typesetting? For example a plugin which allowed the use of LaTeX codes? Writing math in messenger is certainly a pain, especially because of the smileys (they can be turned off, I know, but anyway : - ). An easy way to write math in Messenger would certainly be nice!

Thanks!

Can't you just use the little "writing" tab that let's you draw with the mouse and send that?

Yes, I could... But that isn't exactly easy. It would be much nicer if it was possible to use LaTeX codes. I suppose no one has made a pluging which allows this yet... :-( It exists for the Linux Messenger client GAIM though, but the plugin has not been ported to Windows.
