Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on the existence and examples of compounds featuring fourfold bonds between atoms, specifically focusing on the nature of such bonds and their chemical implications. Participants explore the concept of fourfold bonds in the context of chemistry, seeking clarification and examples.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests examples of compounds with fourfold bonds and expresses a language barrier.
  • Another participant seeks compounds that exhibit a +4 oxidation state, implying a connection to fourfold bonding.
  • A participant clarifies their inquiry about the existence of a fourfold bond specifically between two carbon atoms, questioning the correctness of this assertion.
  • One participant states they are unaware of any molecule consisting of two atoms that have four bonds to each other.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion remains unresolved, with participants expressing uncertainty about the existence of compounds with fourfold bonds and differing levels of knowledge on the topic.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not established clear definitions or examples of fourfold bonds, and there is a lack of consensus on the existence of such compounds.

Find something with four bonds with it. What compounds do you know have a +4 oxidation state?

hello again
i think i couldn't ask my question correctly i want to find a fourfold bond between 2 atoms

in the bond division lessons, the fourfold bond example was the bond between 2 carbons.
is it correct or not? if its correct which compund contain this condition?

A molecule of two atoms that have four bonds to each other? I don't know of any.
