Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the requirements for joining the joint honours program in physics and mathematics at McGill University, specifically focusing on the concept of "high standing" and the associated academic metrics.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the specific requirements for "high standing" to join the program.
  • Another participant mentions that while there is no formal R-score cutoff, an R-score below 26-27 may significantly reduce chances of admission, while an R-score above 30 is considered favorable.
  • A different participant seeks clarification on whether an R-score of 30+ is applicable for the honours program, expressing relief upon confirming their R-score is over 37.
  • One participant reassures that an R-score of 30 or higher is sufficient for admission into the math/physics program.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that an R-score of 30 or higher is advantageous for admission, but there is no formal consensus on a specific cutoff, as the discussion reflects varying perspectives on what constitutes "high standing."

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not clarify the specific criteria or definitions used by McGill for "high standing," and the implications of varying R-scores on admission chances remain somewhat ambiguous.

Hi, I would like to know the requirements to join the physics/math joint hounours program of Mcgill. They talk about having height standing, but I would like to know what's considered ''high standings''. I would be very thankful if anybody can answer me. Thank you!

Hi, there is no formal R-score cutoff (although below 26-27 your chances of getting into McGill are not too good). Above 30 you're definitely golden. The reason the demand high standing, is that the program is very challenging, with success rates around 30-40 %. Feel free to message me for more info.

Thank you for your answer, but I want to know if the 30+ CRC is also the approximation to join the hounours program of physics/mathematics, if it's the case, I can relax, my CRC is over 37.

Yes, you can definitely relax. Math/Phys will take you with 30+.
