I am trying to find a worthwhile math package to learn and use. Matlib is just too expensive so it's out of the question. GNU Octave is OK but has simple stuff like plot can be complicated. For example GNU Octave plot of floor function is:
which is wrong. But the same plot of Wolfram Alpha is simple and accurate:
I did not have to do any fiddling with results to get proper graph. Also, I like the natural language of Wolfram and it's mostly affordable. In short, is it worth learning GNU Octave and all it's quirks or should I just pay for Wolfram Alpha Personal edition, annually.
