Schools Good Universities for Quantum Gravity (phd)

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on identifying reputable math and physics departments with strong faculties in mathematical physics and quantum gravity, particularly in Canada, the USA, and the UK. The University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo, along with the Perimeter Institute, are highlighted as top choices in Canada. Other notable institutions include the University of Western Ontario, the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, and McGill University, which has strengths in string theory and cosmology. Louisiana State University and UC Riverside are also mentioned for their faculty involved in loop quantum gravity. Participants emphasize the importance of contacting professors for PhD information and suggest having a backup plan in case pursuing quantum gravity does not pan out. The conversation also touches on the development pace of loop quantum gravity in various countries, with a query about its progress in the UK, Canada, and France compared to the USA.

Can you tell me about good Math and physics departments has good faculties of mathematical physics or quantum gravity ? I will contact prof about phd information.

Physics news on Phys.org
I'll go over Canada, for quantum gravity:

You best bet is these two (linked) places:
Universities of Guelph/Waterloo: http://gwp.on.ca/research/index.html
Perimeter Institute: http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/

Some smaller research groups on QG are, among others, at:
University of Western Ontario: http://www.apmaths.uwo.ca/theorphys.shtml
University of Toronto: http://www.physics.utoronto.ca/research/subatomic/thep/people
University of British Columbia: http://www.physics.ubc.ca/research/particle.php

You might want to specify where: which country, which region, if you have any preferences. Have you tried looking on the internet?

I will choose Canada, usa, Uk

Yes perimeter institute is a good choice. Lee smolin is there. Surfing net i have found in uk - Nottingham , York math department has good strength. In usa - Penn State.

Dear Cristo,
No i am not tired. I have been searching for few days. I have started this thread bcoz i will get some recommendation and comments from all of you. Bcoz i should choose i good one.

Well, as always I like to hype up my own University (McGill). A lot of professors here seem to be doing interesting things in String Theory and Cosmology (although I'm not sure if that's exactly what you have in mind when you say Quantum Gravity). You should read some of the professor's pages under Theoretical High Energy here

Thanks i will visit.. I am actually looking for Loop Quantum Gravity. Not String theory, although my user name is SuperStringBoy !:-p
