If you draw in the directions of the forces with respect to the 20kg mass...where is the resultant?
 
i found the two forces acting on the 20 kg ball and then i just did the pythagorean theorem to find the hypotenuse which would be the resultant since they are perpendicular
 
please can someone help!
 
Well the resultant force you found, was it the correct answer?
 
yes it is correct for the 20 kg mass
 
the equation arctan(y/x) will give you the measure of the angle off the x-axis in the counter clockwise direction.
