A user borrowed a friend's video camera for filming but faced memory issues, leading to the deletion of some footage, including personal family videos, against the friend's explicit instructions. This has resulted in significant tension between them, with the friend now upset and not speaking to the user. The user is uncertain about how to approach the situation, weighing whether to apologize or give the friend space. Forum participants emphasize the importance of trust and respect in friendships, noting that the user's actions were perceived as selfish and inconsiderate. Some suggest that the deleted footage might still be recoverable, while others stress the need for the user to sincerely apologize and acknowledge the breach of trust. The discussion reflects a divide on the severity of the incident, with some viewing it as a minor mistake and others as a serious violation of trust that could jeopardize the friendship.

We all make mistakes sometimes.. just buy her something she really loves and tell her you will do everything to recover the data and not ever delete stuff in future  I don't know why someone would keep all the stuff on video camera. I always make a backup on my computer in case I accidentally delete pictures on the camera.

No, some people value people that are trustworthy. Trust is at the top of my list for being a friend. If you can't trust someone, how can they be your friend? What else is significant? Partying? Flattery?

LeRoy, a "mistake" would be that she told him he could delete some files and he made a mistake and deleted all. She said not to delete anything, so it wasn't a mistake. He decided to betray her trust, for his personal benefit no less, that's a very big deal for many people. Maybe trust isn't important to you, that's ok if you are willing to befriend people you can't trust.

People are allowed to have their opinions of what is important to them.

Only his friend can decide how they want to deal with him now. To me it's not what was done, but that he can't be trusted.
It's bad to be with people who will break your trust all the time but what you seem to be suggesting is not human at all because you need to have some flexibility and allow others to correct their mistakes. If they don't then yes it's time to move away.

To summarize the thread:

The students feel the deleting of some videos from a friends camcorder is no big deal and everyone should just make up and not do it again.

The PF technicians recommend that some or all of the videos can be recovered.

All others feel that the OP broke a promise not to delete and willfully ignored his friends request in pursuit of his own project.

And the friend is upset that she didn't save these videos off to some safe place.

In the end no one is happy about what happened, the videos have as yet to be recovered and now we are biting each other over our opinions.

So I'd say the thread has run its course and its time to close it.

Jedi, you made a good a point - why she may not have the Kennedy footage, perhaps she had videos of a person dear to her that is no longer in her life.

Evo, if you want I can give you plenty of advice on relationships and trust ;) I am writing a book you know.

Apologise immediately. Also don't use the card any more (since that prevents recovery) and try to recover the old stuff.
