How can I transfer my T40 harddrive image to an R52 Thinkpad?

[wirenut110]

How can I copy my the entire harddrive image from my IBM Thinkpad T40 to another IBM Thinkpad R52? Since there is dissimilar hardware a simple backup/restore will not work. I have read about a few products that can do this. I am just trying to find the easiest way to make this happen.

Look for "Parted" ( http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/index.shtml ) or its various variations...
e.g. http://lwn.net/Articles/184323/
which are likely to appear in numerous linux livecds like knoppix ( http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Rescue_FAQ ).

I browsed through the links that you have given. I don't think i can perform a backup/restore with linux for I have never used that style OS or programming. Thank you though.
