SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the limitations of the regular TI-89 calculator compared to the TI-89 Titanium, specifically regarding the inability to solve certain inequalities due to outdated operating system constraints. Users confirmed that the TI-89 Titanium successfully solves the inequality (x+6)(x-2)>8, while the regular TI-89 does not. The original poster inquired about transferring the Titanium OS to the regular TI-89 and sought information on compatible cords for connectivity and downloading FlashApps.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of TI-89 and TI-89 Titanium calculator functionalities
  • Familiarity with solving inequalities and equations in algebra
  • Knowledge of FlashApps and their usage on TI calculators
  • Basic skills in connecting devices via USB or serial cables
NEXT STEPS
  • Research methods for transferring operating systems between TI calculators
  • Learn about compatible USB or serial cables for the TI-89
  • Explore the process of downloading and installing FlashApps on TI calculators
  • Investigate the differences in functionalities between TI-89 and TI-89 Titanium
USEFUL FOR

Students, educators, and math enthusiasts using TI calculators, particularly those seeking to enhance their TI-89 capabilities or troubleshoot limitations in solving mathematical problems.

Hi, I was trying to solve inequalities on my regular TI-89 today and discovered I couldn't!

I did solve((x+6)(x-2)>8,x) and pressed enter. Instead of the answer it just spit me back the question. I tried on 2 different TI-89 Titaniums and it worked fine. I called TI tech support and they said it must be a limit of the old 89 operating system.

Is there anyway to get the Titanium OS onto my regular TI-89 (preferably through the internet)? And where would I buy a cord compatible with a regular TI-89? Also, it says I need to download something in order to use FlashApps...

Thank you

You may not be able to solve the inequality (x+6)(x-2)>8

However, you can solve the equation (x+6)(x-2)=8

You then just have to figure out which intervals the solution is valid in.
