How can we detect parallel universes in M-theory?

SOooo i finally understand (with in reason) M theory! but correct me if i am wrong, they say the universe (or multiverse) started because parallel universe collided and gave mass and such and formed our universe. But what i don't no is how can we tell the actually existence of parallel universes? or is it all theory?
