May I know how scientist measure the radius of the earth?
And how accurate it is??
And how accurate it is??
Scientists measure the radius of the Earth using historical and modern techniques, notably through the methods established by Eratosthenes and satellite Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). Eratosthenes calculated the Earth's circumference by measuring the angle of the sun's rays in wells at two different locations in Italy, applying simple geometry to derive the radius. Modern measurements utilize VLBI, where two satellites observe a common quasar to determine their distance apart, allowing for precise calculations of the Earth's radius. This method serves as an independent verification of Eratosthenes' original findings.
PREREQUISITESGeographers, physicists, educators, and anyone interested in the historical and modern methods of measuring the Earth's dimensions.

The first person to measure the circumference (and thus by calculation the radius) of the Earth was a Greek by the name of Erosthothenese (spelled horribly wrong). He traveled between two cities in Italy and measured the angle of the sun in a well. From there its simple geometry.
