Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around a 4-variable test that claims to measure different types of cognitive strengths: interpersonal, visual, verbal, and mathematical. Participants share their scores and express their thoughts on the nature of the test, its implications, and the perceived validity of the results.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that the test is more about preferences in thinking styles rather than actual intelligence, noting that scores above 100% indicate a higher inclination towards that type of thinking.
  • Several participants express disbelief or confusion regarding the high percentages, particularly in mathematical reasoning, with comments like "I hate math" and "I can't have 0% verbal."
  • One participant humorously advises against dating or having relationships based on significant differences in their interpersonal or mathematical scores.
  • Some participants question the meaningfulness of the test results, particularly the claim of scoring higher than 99% in various categories, suggesting that it may not accurately reflect individual abilities.
  • A few participants share their scores, with some expressing pride in high mathematical percentages while others express concern or humor about their results.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally do not reach a consensus on the validity or meaningfulness of the test. There are multiple competing views regarding the interpretation of the scores and the implications of the results.

Contextual Notes

Some participants highlight the limitations of the test, particularly regarding the scoring system and the potential for skewed results. There is also a noted lack of clarity on how the percentages are derived and what they truly represent.

Odd. I'd have thought that I'd be incredibly average with those percentages. I'd like some more mathematical sense though. ;)

I don't think it's so bad. I got something similar & now want to read up on poincare because he seems to be the mathematician I resemble most. apparently he was a very "visual" mathematican also. up to this point I've always liked hilbert most & sort of overlooked poincare.

edit: check it out
-- His normal work habit was to solve a problem completely in his head, then commit the completed problem to paper...
-- His ability to visualise what he heard proved particularly useful when he attended lectures since his eyesight was so poor that he could not see properly what his lecturers were writing on the blackboard

You scored higher than 0% on interpersonal
You scored higher than 6% on visual
You scored higher than 16% on verbal
You scored higher than 99% on mathematical

It's no wonder I can't get a date. :(
Why don't you try finding somebody that is more like you? That's usually a good way of doing things.

:'( I think I actually have a little difficulty in math...spatial things are easier.
