How Does a Battery Charge a Capacitor in a Direct Current Circuit?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

A capacitor does not block direct current (DC) until it is fully charged. Initially, when connected to a DC battery, the capacitor allows current to flow as it charges. As the capacitor accumulates charge, its opposing voltage increases, eventually matching the battery voltage. At this point, the total circuit voltage becomes zero, and current ceases to flow.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of capacitor behavior in DC circuits
  • Basic knowledge of voltage and current concepts
  • Familiarity with Ohm's Law
  • Concept of opposing voltage in electrical circuits
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the charging and discharging cycles of capacitors in DC circuits
  • Learn about the time constant in RC circuits
  • Explore the role of capacitors in filtering applications
  • Investigate the differences between AC and DC circuit behavior
USEFUL FOR

Students studying electrical engineering, electronics enthusiasts, and anyone seeking to understand the principles of capacitors in direct current circuits.

a capacitor doesn't blocks direct current until it's fully charged

loosely speaking, the capacitor doesn't block current, it behaves like a battery that opposes the real battery …

as the capacitor charges up, the opposing voltage increases; when the capacitor is fully charged, the opposing voltage equals the battery voltage, so the total circuit voltage is zero and no current flows

Thanks a lot tiny-tim. I got it now.
