SUMMARY

The transfer of butane gas from a canister to a lighter occurs primarily due to vapor pressure differences rather than gravity. When the lighter's tank is vented to the atmosphere, it creates a pressure drop that facilitates the flow of butane from the canister into the lighter. This process ensures that the volume of fuel exiting the lighter tank equals the volume of fuel entering from the canister, effectively refilling the lighter. Understanding these principles is crucial for anyone working with butane refilling systems.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of gas laws, particularly vapor pressure.
  • Familiarity with the mechanics of pressurized gas systems.
  • Knowledge of the structure and function of butane lighters.
  • Awareness of atmospheric pressure effects on gas flow.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of vapor pressure and its role in gas transfer.
  • Study the mechanics of pressurized gas systems and their applications.
  • Explore the design and operation of butane lighters and refillable gas containers.
  • Investigate the effects of atmospheric pressure on fluid dynamics in gas systems.
USEFUL FOR

Individuals interested in physics, engineers working with gas systems, and anyone involved in the design or use of butane lighters and refilling mechanisms.

when butane lighters are refilled by external canister, HOW and WHY butane gas flows from canister to lighter
Is it due to GRAVITY or VAPOR PRESSURE?
If GRAVITY is the reason I have posted a link where torch is held above the canister?
If it is vapor pressure, it is going to be same is both the tanks ?
Some one please explain HOW this actual transfer is happening ?

Thanks
But I still don't have a clear picture
If the lighter tank is vented to atmosphere causing a pressure drop between canister and tank,
Will then the
volume of fuel exiting the tank= volume of fuel entering the tank from canister
Then how does it gets filled
