How Much Thrust Is Needed to Lift 150kg?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

To lift a weight of 150 kg, a thrust of at least 330.69 lbs is required, as this is the equivalent weight in pounds. This calculation assumes zero lift and constant thrust from the propulsion system. For effective maneuverability and acceleration, the thrust should exceed this minimum requirement. Understanding thrust mechanics is essential for designing propulsion systems, such as ducted fans, for applications like jetpacks.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of thrust and weight conversion (kg to lbs)
  • Familiarity with ducted fan technology
  • Knowledge of propulsion mechanics
  • Concept of static thrust measurement
NEXT STEPS
  • Research thrust-to-weight ratio calculations for various propulsion systems
  • Explore ducted fan specifications and performance metrics
  • Learn about the principles of lift and drag in aerodynamics
  • Investigate advanced propulsion technologies for personal flight devices
USEFUL FOR

Aerospace engineers, hobbyists interested in personal flight technology, and anyone involved in the design of propulsion systems for lightweight vehicles.

Hello!
New poster here with a problem (No, not a homework, its a tinker problem)

Basically, I've been trying to work out how much thrust would be required to lift 150kg and make it fly around (jetpack hypothetical), assuming that there is zero lift and constant thrust from the engine/s on the person.

Now I've found several ducted fan's, but I haven't found a calculation that would translate their 'Static thrust: 2.7 lbs' into something I could work with.

What I'd really like is a simple, easy to follow explanation on thrust mechanics for dummies :p
Failing that, a link and alittle hint :)

Regards,
Farle.

If you're looking for an answer in lbs, then just convert the 150 kg into lbs, and that's at least how much you will need to get off the ground. Ideally more if you want to be able to move around and accelerate.
