How reputable are british universities among engineering employers in America

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

British universities, particularly Oxbridge and Imperial College, are generally well-regarded among American engineering employers. However, the H1B visa process poses significant challenges for British and European engineers, primarily due to political pressures and the perception of abuse by software companies. New graduates from American universities have an advantage in obtaining necessary certifications, which complicates the hiring landscape for foreign engineers.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of H1B visa regulations
  • Familiarity with the reputation of Oxbridge and Imperial College
  • Knowledge of the American engineering job market
  • Awareness of certification requirements for engineers in the U.S.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research H1B visa application processes and challenges
  • Investigate the reputation of British universities among U.S. employers
  • Explore certification pathways for engineers in the United States
  • Analyze the impact of political climate on foreign engineering employment in the U.S.
USEFUL FOR

International engineering graduates, recruiters, and employers interested in understanding the dynamics of hiring foreign engineers in the U.S. job market.

I got a feeling that most discussions about university reputation here revolves around American Universities. What do US employers in the engineering field think of British universities, Oxbridge and imperial college in particular?

And while we're at it, is it harder for british / European engineers to get american engineering firms to sponsor you for H1B visas compared to engineers from for example India and China?

I think British universities are pretty well regarded (at least the top few)
The problem with H1Bs is that they are rather abused by software companies so it's difficult for any other company to get one, there are also increasing political pressures against them. Finally being on an H1B sucks unless you are treating it as a short term experience thing.

Assuming you are a new grad there are still a lot of american general eng grads around and it's easier for them to get certification if you are in an area where that matters.
